;[1]: We have found the letters you have written us full of interest. We have rejoiced and blessed the Lord with you for all the favours he has accorded you, whether in your sea voyages or in the different stations you have served in, in the islands.

;[2]: I take pleasure noting, my dear Brother, that you are fully aware of your situation, and that you are applying yourself constantly to the practice of the virtues of your state. That is the true means of being happy, succeeding in your employment, and being of service to others. Those who do not understand that are unfortunate and cause much misery.
