:He remained at Kororareka until July 1842 when he went to Auckland to accompany [[Michel Borjon|Fr. Borjon]] to Wellington.  The ''Speculator'' foundered after leaving Mercury Bay on 12 August, and Déodat was presumed to have drowned, aged 26, after four months on the New Zealand mission.
