While studying for priesthood I completed a degree in Mathematics at Victoria University of Wellington. For three years I was employed by the Qualifications Authority as the National Moderator for Religious Education. Subsequently, I spent four years in Rome studying for the license and then doctorate in systematic theology.

I have become involved in Marist Studies through working with Marist Seminarians. With Fr Kevin Conroy SM I organised a conference ''Catholic Beginnings in Western Oceania'' (27-29 July 2007) which was a curtain-raiser to the Suva Colloquium.
