[1] […]The mass was said on the bridge; monsieur the commander and his officers and all the crew in military costume with their weapons, were present; the local Catholics and a good number of Protestants were there too; some natives added to the crowd; There were approximately 300 people on the bridge. I made, on this occasion, a short sermon in French at the request of the assembly, of whom three quarters were French. I was extremely satisfied with everyone present and all the listeners. I made the ceremony as episcopal as I could, though I had only Brother Michel and one catholic layman as servers.
