Antoine (Br EULOGE) CHABANY, aged 28 (on arrival in New Zealand in Group V on 15 Jun 1841).

About a month after his arrival he sailed from the Bay of Islands on Sancta Maria with Pompallier and others and was left at Matamata (with Antoine Séon). By the end of the year he was at Tauranga, and after 1845 at Rotorua. He was part of the 1850 Viard Marist exodus, and on 11 May left Wellington for Akaroa where he stayed till the mission there was abandoned the following year. For about six months he was at Otaki, till in March 1852 he went to Wanganui town with Pezant. He was helping temporarily at the Whanganui River mission at Kauaeroa when the Pai Marire launched its drive towards Wanganui. In the ensuing conflict Euloge was killed on 14 May 1864 during the battle on Moutoa Island. He is buried on the river bank upstream from the battle site.
