4 October 1842 — Bishop Jean-Baptiste-François Pompallier to Father Jean-Claude Colin, Bay of Islands
Translated by Fr Brian Quin SM, September 2015
- Bay of Islands, October 4, 1842
- Reverend Father,
- [1]
- As you have already been told by Father Épalle, I am drawing on you up to the limit of the determined sum, in order to extinguish some debts that have fallen into arrears, originating from delays that the mission has experienced in the payment of funds allocated by the work of the Propagation of the Faith. You will have great ease in paying these drafts, out of the allocations for the two years 1841 and 1842. This draft, of the same date as this missive, amounts to six thousand two hundred and fifty three francs, drawn in triplicate.
- [2]
- With respect and gratitude, I have the honour to be, Reverend Father,
- Your most humble and obedient servant,
- + J(ean) B(aptis)te F(ranç)ois Pompallier, Bishop, Vicar-Apostolic
- Your most humble and obedient servant,
