Fr AUGUSTE-JOSEPH CHOUVET, age on arrival in New Zealand not known. Arrived in Group VII on 18 Feb 1843.

He was not a Marist,[1] but a priest who volunteered his services on a trial basis. Soon after arrival he was appointed to Opotiki where he stayed for nearly three years. He returned to France with Pompallier on the Rhin which sailed from Akaroa on 16 April 1846. In 1855 he published Un Tour du Monde; the New Zealand section of his book was presented as a monograph A Marist Missionary in New Zealand 1843-1846 (Whakatane 1985).
