2 October 1842 — Bishop Jean-Baptiste-François Pompallier to Father Jean-Claude Colin, Bay of Islands, NZ
Translated by Fr Brian Quin SM, August 2015
APM OOc 418.1 Pompallier contains the letter that was sent. The first paragraph is in the handwriting of Jean Yvert, the second and the signature are of Pompallier. The third and the signature are of Mr Louis Michel.
- Bay of Islands, 2 October, 1842.
- Reverend Father,
- [1]
- Along with the members of my council, I am still of the same opinion expressed to you in a letter that I wrote to you on the 10th of September 1841. Father Épalle will already have told you, face to face, that your suggestions suit me perfectly. Right now, wanting to make use of the facility I have been offered to extinguish all interest on some accounts overdue because of delays I have experienced in receiving allocations from the work of the Propagation of the Faith, I am drawing on Lyons for the sum of eight thousand three hundred and sixteen francs, value received as per regulations, to the order of Mr Louis Michel and in triplicate.
- [2]
- I have the honour to be, with respect and gratitude, reverend Father,
- Your most humble and obedient servant,
- + J B F Pompallier, Bishop of Maronea, Vicar-Apostolic of Western Oceania.
- Your most humble and obedient servant,
- [3] [in the hand of Louis Michel]
- Received from Reverend Father Colin, Superior, the stated sum
- Louis Michel
- Lyons, 25 August 1843.
