My first task is to gain a general overview of the work of the Marists since the early days in Lyon and Belley. I am currently studying the journeys of the first three groups of Marists who set out to work alongside bishop Pompallier. However my main interest will be the Irish Marists who have worked in Fiji over many years.
My uncle, Fr John Clerkin, first arrived there in Fiji in 1939 and spent the rest of his life there until his death in 1984.
I am finding this site extremely useful and am looking forward to using it in the course of my future research.
