Br. JUSTIN (Étienne) Perret, aged 28 (on arrival in New Zealand in Group V on 15 June 1841).

Justin also was on the Sancta Maria in July 1841 and was left at Maketu. When this station was closed after a year he went to Opotiki, and in 1847 to Tauranga till the 1850 Marist exodus to Wellington. There he helped build the convent and presbytery at Thorndon and became general factotum for Philippe Viard. His health deteriorated so he returned to France in April 1857. A year later he was hospitalised in Lyon and died, still in hospital, on 7 June 1871, aged 57.
