I am currently working on documentation of the languages of Pentecost Island, Vanuatu, and I know that some valuable work in this area was done by Marist priests at Melsisi on Pentecost in the early 20th century, at a time when some languages and dialects were spoken in this area that are now extinct. Having spent three years living near Melsisi, and frequently visited the mission there, the history of the area is also of personal interest.
