- In a letter dated 10th September 1841, I asked you to send me, each trimester, the allocations from the Propagation of the Faith for this mission, so as to avoid, in cases of accidental occurrences in the banks, or ships that are carrying them to us, losing them entirely. Along with the members of my council at the Bay of Islands, I am still of this opinion.

- As well, by sending me our funds regularly each trimester, you will still have, in the cashbox for this mission in Lyons, a certain sum of money available for facing up to some out of the ordinary or urgent need of this same mission.

- Right now, the funds entrusted to Wright’s Bank in London, and three-quarters of which, we were told, would have to with us very soon, have not yet completely got to us; as well, we have not yet received here anything of the allocations of eighteen hundred and forty one, and when this letter gets to you it will be the time when the allocations of 1842 will have to be sent. Now, as we find ourselves at this time forced to pay high interest for the present draft fallen due and here enclosed, I am drawing on you, or on the allocations for the mission, to pay off its interest , the sum of seventy–four pounds, two shillings and six pence.

- ↑ Cf the letter of 16 September 1842 (doc 195) in which the sum of the draft is indicated in [4] ( and not, as in the present document, in [ 3]. Here, for [4], the secretary, (Jean Yvert), copying the model of the previous letter, wrote “ for the sum of” then put a long line,, so that Pompallier could put in the total amount, but the latter, having already written it in the preceding paragraph, wrote “susdite” above the word “de”, and put nothing in the blank.
